BIMI will only display a logo in the SVG Tiny P/S profile: SVG Tiny 1.2 with scripting, animation, CSS and external references stripped out. Drop a file in and it comes back in that profile, squared and centred, with anything that could not be converted spelled out.
Drop an SVG, PNG or JPG here. The original vector file gives the best result; a PNG or JPG is traced into vector shapes.

Regular SVGs allow scripts, CSS and external links, which are security risks for email clients like Gmail. The "Tiny Portable Secure" (Tiny P/S) profile removes them so the image is safe to render.
For Gmail, yes: it shows a BIMI logo only with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or a Common Mark Certificate (CMC), and only a VMC adds the blue checkmark. Apple Mail requires a VMC. A VMC needs a registered trademark; a CMC needs evidence the logo has been in public use. Some providers, such as Yahoo, can show a logo without one.
The original vector file (SVG, or an SVG exported from Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape) whenever you have it. A PNG or JPG is traced, which approximates curves and colours; certificate issuers compare the logo with your registered or published mark, so an exact export is the safer submission.
